30 Days and Change: Day 23
Day Twenty-Three: At what moment did you feel most loved?
Word Count: 219
Of course, my wedding day. It felt so surreal that we were getting married, and so many folks had stopped what they were doing to watch us two weirdos get married, particularly after telling everyone and their mommas that we were rushing to get married and to stop asking us. My late friend Obediyah would tease us about how we would get married; we didn’t know it yet. A little over 4 years later, he’d be correct, but he's unable to see it in person. We got married in Romare Bearden Park in Uptown, Charlotte. He is one of my favorite Black artists, and my own personal art often mimics his styling. With only nine people at the quick ceremony, we tied the knot and threw a huge reception! Throughout the exchange of our vows, I didn’t cry at all.
It was the reception, and seeing all those faces beaming back at us tore my little heart up. In total, we had about 75 folks attend our reception, loving on us, smiling at us, and wrapping their arms physically and spiritually around our union. It was so cool to see cousins, friends, moms, dads, and more so excited for us, some in tears of joy, some with understandable apprehension, and others with pure happiness for the love they’ve witnessed.
