30 days and change: Day 22

Day Twenty-Two: What’s more important to you: honesty or loyalty?

Word Count: 176

This one is easy. Honesty is most important to me. Loyalty to me sometimes allows things to go overlooked, ignored, and swept away because one is so “loyal” or shows “loyalty” to another. I want my friends and family to call me out when I am wrong, not stand for my bullshit even when I don’t want to hear it and hold me accountable beyond just our relationship to one another. I’d also expect those I mentioned to be willing to hear me as I continue to do the same with them.

In today’s world, loyalty is often really blind, and I can’t do that. (except in relationship to Beyonce) It’s exactly how Trump has gotten in office, and countless other dictators, celebrities, and terrible folks have gained popularity and visibility. When you’re honest, I can better navigate future impasses that naturally arise between humans in thought, word, and deed. Building a sense of loyalty between the two, we continue to adjust as we show up in full honesty for one another.

Plainly, be fucking honest.
