While I explore various mediums, I find my most powerful expression through digital collage on Procreate. My creative process is a soulful blend of intuition, memory, and synesthesia—a blending of my senses where I literally see colors as feelings and moods.

This perceptual blend allows me to select colors that are directly linked to emotion, much like the blues expresses a specific feeling. I see the process as a dive into my own creative depths, where I layer and combine existing imagery to evoke a new feeling or narrative. Each collage becomes a new visual landscape—a creation born from the currents of my imagination and the harmonious mixing of color, feeling, and personal history.

Dodger Blue, Procreate, 2025

The piece titled "Dodger Blue" is a powerful and complex study in a single color, blue. The piece masterfully uses varying shades of blue to evoke a range of deep thought, to sorrow and sadness. This work is a perfect example of my synesthesia at work, as the composition itself taken on a layered mood.

The piece centers on a powerful sense of yearning and longing for motion and movement. The use of planes, a classic car, and reaching hands all set against a rich, deep blue curtain, giving the piece a theatrical quality. The central image, a nod to the planet Neptune, symbolizing dreams and the subconscious. This is in direct conflict with the two "STOP" signs, which introduce a sense of pause, a barrier, or an external force halting movement.

The LA Dodgers hat grounds the piece in a specific cultural and geographical space, suggesting a tension between feeling rooted in a place and a desire for escape or a new journey. The hands, a universal symbol of human connection and struggle, are all reaching for this dream like state. This college is a soulful, visual narrative about navigating the currents of longing, and the forces that both pull us forward and ask us to pause.

“Dottie”, 2025

“Dottie” uses a beautiful vintage photograph of my great-grandmother, Doris O. Hankins or “Dottie”, whose work as a hair professional became a foundation for my family for generations. I used digital collage and a vibrant palette to draw out the soulful emotion of this moment. The glowing halos and starbursts elevate this act of care from a simple family tradition to a sacred legacy. To me, the colors feel less like a filter and more like a direct expression of the love and reverence in this memory a perfect example of my synesthesia at work.

This artwork is a soulful expression of gratitude and deep-seated admiration for the energy that carried my family forward through the power of her craft.
